Bicycle Touring in Guangxi, China

My initial plan was to cycle from Hanoi, Vietnam, towards Bangkok, Thailand, but I had to change my route thanks to some problems with the gear hub on my bike.
So I once again entered China, where I could quickly order the otherwise difficult to source replacement parts.

The region I visited is called Guangxi, and it boasts the same beautiful Karst landscape, but unlike in Vietnam you won’t find a single other foreign tourist here. On top of that it is cleaner, less densely populated, which makes wild camping easier, and you get all the convenience modern China has to offer. These facts, combined with the natural and cultural diversity all over the country made China one of my favourite countries to cycle in.

Unfortunately I didn’t manage to repair my bike on my own, so after touring the countryside for a while (the hub was still working, just the risk of it breaking would keep increasing) I reached the next big city and took a train Guangzhou, where China’s only bike shop specialised in these type of gear hubs is located. They didn’t manage to repair it either, so a new hub needs to be ordered from Germany. I didn’t want to wait up to three weeks for it to arrive, so I will spend this time hiking in Nepal. I’ll be back on the bike soon!
